In general, yes the jewelry shops at malls are a little too overpriced. I would recommend going to your favorite antique store, and asking them where they get their jewelry repairs and items from. It's your best bet towards finding the best price and best quality.

Yes, they are. Stores in malls have huge overhead costs, so they have to make-up those costs by adding a significant mark-up to the jewelry they sell. Try buying online instead, where they don't have the overhead of brick and morter stores.

Generally yes. They have a large overhead in rent and staff. Try building a relationship with a local independent shop.

The answer to your question is "It Depends". They have to cover a lot more expenses than an online store would, rent, insurance, salaries. So, the same ring might be less expensive online, but there are benefits to being able to pick up and try on an item in person. You can get the sizing done faster too.

All jewelry stores base their pricing upon their overhead. Most mall stores' pricing is in line with the pricing at free standing non-mall stores.

Of course they are, but most places that specialize in jewelry will be. A cheaper alternative is to buy your jewelry at a more general location like Wal-Mart or Target. Although; the extra money can be worth it if there's someone on sight to give you information about your purchase.

no, you get what you paid for. Some well known jewelers have moved into malls because of the traffic. Customers are more apt to go to the mall especially around the holidays instead of going somewhere where their is no other retail establishment. These are qualified people and they are very picky when hiring additional help.
