No, elephants are not afraid of mice. The reason that many people think this is because of a perpetuated rumor that elephants are scared mice may run up their trunks, this is not true. Elephants are afraid of anything that may startle them, though, and so a quick moving mouse may scare an elephant.

Elephants are frightened by mice, and any other small animal or rodent, simply for the reason that the creature is small enough to crawl up inside their trunks, which scares the elephant.
