Question by  Matt09 (25)

Are all used clothing stores locally owned?

I just wondered if there are any chains.

Most consignment shops are locally owned, but a few are not. Plato's Closet offers gently used clothing, most of which was in retail stores within the past 18 months. They pay cash or offer store credit. Plato's Closet is a franchise operation (rather than company-owned) with units across the country.

Most are, however some places like Goodwill, Plato's Closet, and the Salvation Army are considered chains. There are some smaller chains that exist within state borders.

I don't know any chain used stores, but most used clothing stores in my neighborhood are locally-owned. I think it's better to shop at a locally-owned used clothing store because you usually get really good bargains and you get specialized attention.

Goodwill sells used clothing and has many storefront locations. They could be considered to be a chain of stores even though there is much more that Goodwill does besides sell clothing.
