Why is natural childbirth so painful?

Why do all women need epidurals, if birth is a natural process? How can I make it less painful?

Labor is very painful; the muscles are contracting and the cervix is slowly opening. Breathing exercises and other pain management techniques can help reduce or control the pain. Warm baths, walking or just changing position can also help. IV drugs and epidural injections can also help relieve labor pain.

The baby is much bigger than the vaginal opening, so it is painful when the baby passes through this area. Besides epidurals, you can also get a spinal block. Some women find that giving birth in water eases some of the pain. In all cases, it's wise to discuss your options with your doctor.

Nobody give birth to a child without pain. When mother give birth to a child suffering from labour pain, the relationship between mother and child become firm. It is quite natural. However, some artificial methods are applied for reducing pain. When the Gynaecologist detects any abnormality such as blood pressure etc. , epidurals are needed.

You're passing a watermelon through something the size of a lemon. How could that NOT be painful?

The baby's head is the same size as a dilated cervix. This means you are pushing the baby through a stretchy tube for which it barely fits.
