Why is my dachshund hopping on his back legs?

With his front legs off the ground? Sounds like a trick! With all fours? sometimes thats how these dogs run because of how short their legs are

There are several causes of this, all of which need to be seen by your veterinarian. It may be that he is injured and it's painful to walk on them.

First you need to make sure he is not in pain. It could be his legs,knees or more commonly his back. Dachshunds are prone to disk disease-compression and rupture because of their short legs which absorb the shock from jumping. A check up should help resolve this problem.

The dachshund is a dog which will hop in response to a multitude of stimuli. Your dachshund is probably hopping because he is begging for affection or food.
