Why does a wet-handed slap hurt worse than a dry one?

When a dry hand slaps you, air trapped in the ridges of your palm and fingers cushions the blow somewhat. A wet hand has water between the ridges.

I don't know if it's true, but maybe it causes more suction? like pulling a dry suction cup off a window is easier than a wet one?
