Why are some cereals named after monsters?

Is that appealing to children?

Some cereals are named after monsters simply for a story behind it. And to answer the other question, yes, it does seem to appeal to children. The fact is, without a story or plot behind the cereal's 'character', children aren't as interested. To them, it isn't the healthiness a cereal offers, it's the fun and taste.

I'm not sure if it's actually appealing to most children or not but naming food after a cartoon character clearly identifies the cereal as "kid's" cereal which hopefully will make it more appealing to them or make parents buy it despite how much sugar is usually in it.
