Who was King James 1st?

I need the basics, when was King James the first in power, what lead to him no longer being in power etc.

King James ruled from 1567 - 1685 and is best known for uniting England, Ireland and Scotland into one kingdom. Also under his reign was when the translated King James Bible was created. James was crowned King of Scots as a youth and died King of Great Britain of illness.

King James the First was the first Stuart Kng of England. He was the King of Scotland in 1567 and became the King of England, Scotland and Ireland when Queen Elizibeth died childless (last of the Tudor monarchs). His reign ended upon his death in 1625. Serious English colonization of North American began during his reign.
