Lightning is formed when ice and water particles in a cloud Bump and rub into each other creating friction. This friction causes a build up of a electric field. From there the charge is going to find the closest place to ground out on earth. This causes lighting strikes

During a thunderstorm, megative ions build up in the clouds and positive ions build in the Earth. These opposite charges attract one another and are discharged in the form of lightning. There are several types of lightning, but this is the most common type.

The lightening comes from the thundering. This mainly takes place before raining. While thundering we can't operate any electrical items such as computers, fridge, television etc. If we operate it may get damaged. The lighting even causes dangerous to our lives. When the light reflects body we may get shocked.
