The Battle of Little Big Horn took place on 25-26 August 1876. On the morning of August 25, General George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry located an Indian camp in the Little Bighorn Valley. Custer separated his forces in an attempt to encircle the Sioux and Cheyenne. Custer's contingent was destroyed, while most of Major Reno and Captain Benteen's troopers survived.
