Feeding your new foal will depend on the basic feeding system you use for all your horses. For example, a lot of mare owners put out the pair to pasture, and only instill a creep-feeding system for the babies about 2 months before they are being weaned. Alternatively, you can start feeding grain at around 5-6 weeks.

between ten and fourteen days is when a foal will show interst of being fed or hungry between 8 to 10 weeks is when the foal can start to be feed

The foal will usually let you know when it is ready to start eating something other than its mother's milk. When they want to try eating something they will sample some of their mom's food.

Around 10-14 days your foal will start nibbling all of Mom's feed to see what they taste like. At 8-10 weeks of age your Mare's milk may not be enough nutrition for your foal and you should start feeding the foal high quality grain.
