I think most doctor's recommend beginning cereal between four and six months. With my first we started right before 4 months because he was taking so much formula that he was very constipated. Most people don't suggest starting prior to four months because there digestive systems are not ready for the food prior to that.

When to start varies from child to child. The AAP will tell you to wait until your child is between 4 and 6 months old. Let your baby clue you in. They will show signs of interest in watching you eat. Try a little at a time and your baby will do the rest. Don't let statistics scare you.

My son we started at about 2 1/2 months. He would eat then act hungry a hour or so later and was not sleeping well. His doctor said to wait until 3 months, though.

This can be started at four to six months. At this point they should be able to swallow correctly and not be overeating.
