What's the widest size of tire you can put on a 9-inch wide rim without problems or excess tire wear?

The excess tire wear is only going to be an issue if you over or under-inflate the tires. However, if you use anything larger than a 225/50R16, you run the risk of breaking the bead or causing uneven wear on the sidewall. Therefore, I would recommend the 225/50R16 for a 9-inch rim.

The widest ture you could put on 9" rim without any issues and no wear issues would have to be 255mm size tire.

I have 275mm also depends on tire manufacturer, there is a rim width range for each tire. however, wider doesn't guarantee more tread on the road

The real limiting factory in tire fitment is not the rim size size but rather the amount of room in the wheel wheel. There are guides online that show you how to properly measure for tires accounting for offset and backspacing.

You should be able to put about any kind of tire you would want on it. I would not try to go over about twenty to thirty because you could get scratches.
