Maximum number of characters in a cell is 32,767. In versions before 2007, only the first 1024 of these would be shown. This made it look like the characters were missing. The solution is to use a text box instead of data in the cell or embed a Word document.

With the length function you can count the number of characters within a cell. So you can write length(A1) for example. If you wish to count more than one field, you can make the same with a field area, for example length(A1:A10). If you want to count the hole column, write down the formula first and double click the rectangle.

If you want to count the number of characters in a specific cell or field, then you should use the formula: LEN(Cell ID). For example, you might write the following formula to count the characters in Cell A1: LEN(A1).

The len() function returns the number of characters in a cell. For example, if you want to count the number of characters in cell A1, then type "=len(A1)" (without the quotes) into any other cell, and press Enter
