The Viking warrior Olaf I Tryggvason (968-1000) is credited with bringing both political unity and Christianity to Norway, which had been to that point a divided, pagan nation. Before becoming king, Olaf Tryggvason led a very interesting life. Christianity became the national religion of Norway at about the same time it took root in Sweden and Denmark.
