I think you can manage anywhere with US dollars since every country has its own currency. You may find a list online with all the money.

Because there are a lot of different countries in South America there are a lot of different currencies there too. Real in Brazil, Peso in Chile, Boliviano (or Peso) in Bolivia, Euro in French Guiana,...
