Any instrument which requires changing in pitch manually and is part of the percussion family is known as 'tuned percussion'. Yes, this does include such percussion instruments as timpani, xylophones, tambourines, glockenspiels and cowbells. These instruments require being beaten in order to produce a sound, and provide the basis of a beat.

Percussion instruments vibrate when physically disturbed. Tuned percussion instruments are those that produce a definite pitch. Timpani and xylophone are two examples of tuned percussion. Other examples are chimes, triangle, marimba, wind chimes, steelpan, and handbell.
