Use juice or sugar water. Wasps are attracted to sweet smells. Be sure to watch your catcher. You don't want to catch any honeybees with it because they are useful to the environment. You might also end up catching flies with your wasp catcher. They also like sweet smelling liquids.

Most of the catchers I've used instruct to use anything sweet smelling or sugary. I have used honey, soda pop, jam or jelly. You have to be careful though as theses baits might catch honey bees too!

The best bait is to put some kind of nectar in the trap. Nectar is a sweet sugary type of liquid (water based). You will attract other insects though.

Sugar and water is the basic one. You may add lemon, vinegar, soda pop, grapes.. almost anything sugary. One teaspoon of laundry detergent and one teaspoon of sugar added to water works either way-the wasp gets caught in the trap or if it escapes, it will die from the detergent.
