It could be any number of system failures with the Anti-lock Brakes. The computer could have a fault, or it could be a problem with a wheel sensor. Take it to a shop and have it scanned. A mechanic can make the proper diagnosis. I doubt it would be a fault in the basic brake system.

well from thet experience that I have had with that particular ford it could mean that the brakes are failing. meaning that they need to be replaced. Another thing that that could mean is that you couls have air in the lines and that they need to be bled.

The ABS light indicates a problem with the Anti-lock Brake System. This warning light may come on for a number of reasons, including low fluid level or air bubbles in the hydraulic system. A mechanic can diagnose the problem more accurately.

An indicator light on on your instrument panel reading ABS could mean there are issues with your Anti-Lock Brake System. There's a computer in your vehicle which provides certain codes to better assist you in the diagnosis of a certain issue brought to your attention after an indicator light goes off on your car

More than likely if you have an ABS light on then your hub or wheel bearing is going out. easy fix but kinda pricey.
