This book was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in 1852. It is considered Hawthorne's third great romantic novel. It is said to reflect his feelings about feminism. The major character, Miles Coverdale, and his interactions and reflections on relationships with various women look at the concept of "The Cult of True Womanhood" which was very prevelant at the time.
