Basically, the heat is caused by extra blood in your legs. This can be caused by general inflammation, by edema (swelling) due to cardiac or circulation problems, or by blood clots that are causing extra blood to remain trapped in the legs.

Heat in your legs can be a sign of Deep Vein Thrombosis if it is accompanied by redness or swelling. It would be best to check with your doctor to make sure that you do not have any blood clots. There are other things that could be causing this as well, such as a nerve problem.
