Your spine consists of bones and discs. The bony part is called facets which are connected to each joint. Bilateral facet hypertrophy means your facet joints are enlarged. This a chronic inflammation best describe as rheumatic disease.

It is the enlargement of the posterior junctions of two respective vertebrae, caused by pressure or osteoarthritis. It causes stiffness and backache.

This is often a normal result of aging where that occurs in the spine as we age. The facet joints which is where vertebrae meet degenerates. Bilateral means the degeneration is occuring on both sides of the affected facet joint or joints.
