A lever is third class if the pivot point is located at one end of the lever and the load is located at the other end. The force is applied between these two points. An example of this is pulling up a fishing rod that is resting in a support.

A third class lever requires applying force between the resistance and the fulcrum. They are ideal for increasing the speed of movement, but are not good for lifting or moving heavy objects.
