Prednisone is a medication that is prescribed for patients with severe pain or inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Natural alternative that can help reduce pain and swelling without harmful side effects include evening primrose capsules, Dong Quai, calendula capsules and arnica creams. Consult your physician before using any natural treatments.

I've seen several places recommending magnesium, astragalus, vitamin C, and fatty acids. However, the evidence for this is tenuous at best. IF predinisone is being used as a long term therapy for allergens, then diet and enviromental changes may be a better option. But for acute asthma, use the prednisone.

Some safer, more natural alternatives to prednisone can be found in certain foods. Pineapple contains a powerful anti-inflammatory enzyme called bromelain, which is reported to block chemical compounds in the body that increase swelling. Fish, flax and olive oils, and the spices, turmeric and ginger, also contain anti-inflammatory properties.

True systemic inflammatory states that require the usage of strong and readily bioavailable anti-inflammatory medicines such as Prednisone (or other Corticosteroids) have no such alternatives (examples being IBD flares, hives, etc. ). However, I regularly tell my patients that increasing dietary levels of Omega-3 fatty acids can be a holistic method to targeting inflammation.

Prednisone is a modern miracle drug. There is no substitute for it in the plant world, and the body only produces a limited amount of its own cortisol.

Prednisone is a steroidal anti-inflammatory. In nature you can find anti-inflammatories, such as aloe, turmeric, and fish oil, but these will not have nearly the power or effect of prednisone.
