It is a thyroid gland that has nodules or lesions on it. "Heterogeneous" is a word that means "abnormal", so a heterogeneous thyroid means means that the thyroid gland appears to be abnormal. A doctor should be consulted to conduct a biopsy to check the gland for signs of cancer.

It is an abnormal thyroid. The nodule would appear solid instead of fluid-filled. A biopsy should be taken to rule out the possibility of cancer.
