Basically, it is an operation that transforms one function of a real variable into another one, and which is generally used in Linear Algebra, alongside with matrices. As an example, I can stated that f(x) = g(x)+3 would fit this parameter, i.e. it is a fourier transform.

In mathematics, the Fourier transform is an operation that transforms one function of a real variable into another. The new function, often called the frequency domain representation of the original function, describes which frequencies are present in the original function.

A Fourier transform is a mathematical transformation that turns a function into another function. It can be thought as a series of weighted averages of a sequence of numbers. It is used in signal processing by taking a signal depending on time and obtaining the averages of the power of the signal for each frequency.
