VA and watts are related by the power factor(PF = W/VA). VA is used in AC equipments with more reactive power like transformers to so their maximums load. If current and voltage perfect means pf=1 else pf<1 with more apparent power. Small equipments have less reactive power so they measured in watts.

Volt amps are based on an AC circuit and equal the amps when voltage is at its peak. Watts is a measure of RMS or average power. Transformers conduct power across two inductors transfering power.

Depends upon what type of transformer you are talking about. There are step up, step down, and transformers that keep the amperage the same but just clean up the signal. Step up transformers step up the amperage and step down lower the amperage. Watts is directly related to amps whether you step up or step down.
