First of all, the things that will be painted much be cleaned first. Then make sure to use an outdoor quality paint.

Start painting with a good quality rust preventative paint. Spray is easier than brush. Make sure the bottom where caps might be present on the legs are covered well. Rust will hurt. Cover with paint any exposed surface. Turn upside down to assure complete coverage on all areas. Let dry well.
