My research revealed that the last name 'Cluff' is actually a variation of the last name 'Clough'. This name is Anglo-Saxon in origin and means "a small valley in between two hills". Deduction would lead one to believe that the original 'Cluff' family lived in such a valley somewhere in England.

Cluff is a variant of the English name Clough, which means someone who lives near a steep slope. It is also a variant of the Welsh name Cloff, which means lame.
