* 57 is in fact a phone trace, mostly used my law enforcement agencies. What it does is locks the last incoming call in storage. You can use it on your cell phone and it traces and saves the most recent call. Once you have it saved, you can take it to the police so they can trace it.

*57 is a phone call trace code entered on the phone to trace the number of the person that called. When entered, the previous call will be stored on the phone and can be accessed later. The stored phone number can be used to verify the identity of the caller.

Some phone companies offer a service called "Call Trace" to help track harassing calls. Immediately after the harassing call, enter the code *57 on the phone and the call is automatically traced. Call Trace is easier to use than a Trap since a phone log isn't required.

Star 57 is the phone code used to trace a harassing phone caller. After the call is ended, dial *57 and it will trace the call.
