Your IE could be loaded with too many temporary internet files or cookies, try removing them in the IE cache

There are numbers of reasons, but the most important is that it's an awfully old software that cannot render newer websites quickly. You should update to IE 7 or 8.

IE6 is an extremely outdated browser with many security vulnerabilities. Also addons (such as toolbars) along with viruses can make it very slow. I'd suggest upgrading to IE8 - which is the latest browser in the IE series by Microsoft. You may also want to consider other popular browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Opera.

The most likely reason is that you have some sort of malware, like a toolbar or other browser helper. You should use a spyware removal program such as Spybot.
