I would try a light, muted yellow such as a butternut yellow. Alternatively, try a pale pink from a brown-pink range: look for a paint chip that's darkest shades are red-brown or mahogany colored. Lots of people think they hate pink, but it always looks fresh and these tones make the humans in the room look excellent.
A bold orangeish brick color would be very attractive here. If you're very adventurous, a carefully chosen shade of lime green could be nice. For a traditional look, go for a subdued tan and rely on red accent pieces for color.
You definitely need a light color because dark colors make a room look smaller. I'd recommend an eggshell or soft sand beige color as these colors will open up the room
