Cars can over heat for a few reasons. If you driving well over the specified mileage for an oil change you engine will overheat. If the RPM's are excessive the engines will overheat. If you drive uphill with the air conditioner on the engine will overheat. If you drive in the desert with the ac, it will overheat.

The most common cause of a car overheating is a stuck thermostat. This is a small part which controls the flow of coolant. Another cause could be a broken cooling fan clutch or it could simply be caused by an insufficient amount of radiator fluid.

It could be overheating becuase it it does not have enough coolant in the radiator and reservoir. another possibility could be that the car has a faulty thermostat. The thermostat remains closed as the car warms up but as it is heats up, it opens allowing it to cool. A faulty one would not allow the engine to get coolant.

Well you probably have a something wrong with your cooling system. Try flushing it and checking your thermostat and water pump. Both could cause overheating.
