This is caused by a build up of something called biliruben. It comes from a breakdown in red blood cells. There are three different types of jaundice. See your veterinarian.

Just like in people, jaundice is caused by an increase in the levels of bilirubin seen in the blood. This indicates that there is a problem with the liver.

Usually this happens when the liver is failing and it will cause jaundice when a liver is not functioning. A visit to the vet should take place.

Jaundice is yellow discoloration of the skin. There are three main causes for it: Prehepatic (breakdown of red blood cells), Hepatic (disorders associated with the liver), and Posthepatic (occurs after the blood passes through the liver).

Jaundice in dogs, like in humans, can be a symptom of a serious medical condition like liver failure. If your pal is displaying this, best to have them vet checked!
