Flex ducts are installed for ease of installition. The drawbacks are that the ducts are not always insulated as well as traditional ducts. The ducts sometimes kink and reduce air flow to the home. Traditional ducts start out large and reduce diameter while flex ducts are the same size thoughout.

1. failure to supply cool air or failure to even circulate air in the building 2. drawing combustion gases into the building with cooling air. 3. in hot attic spaces or where exposed to UV light, the plastic conditioning duct material disintegrates leaving its fiberglass insulation exposed to leak

Defects in the duct air conditioning don't allow the air to circulate in the room properly. Thus, also you want to be checking the vents at all times. The vents in the air could get clogged over time or start leaking. Thus, leaking could be very common in the flex duct air conditioning.

The most common defects are holes in the duct work that is caused from animals eating the tubing. Another common problem is that they are too old and they start to crack and need taping.
