Many breeds of dogs make excellent coon hunters, but there are few that can compare to the classic blue tick coonhound. They have been bred for coon hunting, both in their physical features - they are fast and muscular, with a short coat made for moving easily through both brush and water - and in their intelligence.

Blue Ticks are excellent coon dogs but if you are looking for top of the line coon hound I thin that the redbones and beagles have cornered the market on them.

It doesnt matter what breed it is, its the personality of the dog and how you train it. Although i have had better luck training black and tans and red bones, but alot of people prefer treeing walkers and blueticks.
