The characteristic symptom is an irregular and eventual end to the menstrual cycle. Other symptoms vary with each woman, but some include night sweats, hot flashes, anxiety, mood swings, decreased sex drive, pain during intercourse, vaginal dryness, and trouble sleeping. Some women have many symptoms, but some women have very few.
