Redness or pain at the site of the injection due to a reaction from the solution or the technique of administration. This can include febrile response, infection at the injection site, phlebitis, venous thrombosis, hypervolmia and extravasation. Some of these side effect signs can include fever, trouble breathing and/or swelling.

Allergic reactions such as itching,rashes, or difficulty with breathing are some. There could also be swelling in various parts of the body, such as hands or feet and the possibilty of vomitting.

While sodium chloride generally produces no mild or most common side effects, severe allergic reaction may occur like difficulty breathing, hives, rash, tightness in thechest, or swelling of the lips, face, tongue or mouth. Also nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or swelling of the limbs may occur. If so, seek medical attention immediately.

prolonged usage of sodium chloride solution may cause sodium retention, which is harmful as it increases blood pressure. this inturn leads to other complications including damage to heart and kidney failure
