This is a VERY dangerous pill. It has been known to cause cysts and make endometriosis worse. Most birth controls end up being pulled off the market due to side effects.
I have not taken the regular Orthotricyclen, though I have taken Orthotricyclen Lo. I experienced headaches, breast pain/tenderness, depression, racing thoughts, and motion sickness/nausea. It is different for everyone, though.
Birth control is medication, and like any medication, it will effect people differently. Your doctor can go over the common side effects with you and discuss options besides birth control pills if you're worried about the side effects. Furthermore, your doctor might not even put you on ortho tricyclen, but a different formulation altogether. Talk to your doctor.
Most birth control pills these days are very low-dose and should have minimal to no side effects, especially with a tri-phasic pill. Side effects such as irregular bleeding, headaches, or mood swings can occur, but usually only last during the first few months of taking them. If the side effects persist, switching the brand of pill usually helps.
