In all technicality, no, not if you survived fetal development and were born. Chondroitin is one of the primary building blocks of cartilage. However, chondroitin dietary supplements are generally made with shellfish components. Reactions can range from mild nausea to itching to swelling at all sites of contact.

For the most part there are no major side effects. I do not think that you can be allergic to it since it is a naturally occurring molecule in the body; it is a component and bonding agent to cartilage. The side effects reported have been mild; nausea, heart burn, and indigestion.

Allgergies are common in those who are allergic to shellfish. Chondroitin has not produced any serious side effects, rare mild side effects include nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea or constipation.

I used chondroitin to relieve arthritis. I was covered with a red rash . I consulted my doctor . Within a few hours my redness cleared and my arthritis ached.
