Start with a fresh coat of paint and add an accent wall and paint the trim the accent color. Then try rearranging what you already have.

Look online and in stores for sales. You can go to thrift stores and rummage sales for furniture. You can repaint, restain or re-upholster anything you find to make it match your scheme.

One of the greatest causes of making a house look dumpy is the mess. Clean up the clutter, and this will do wonders for how it looks. Even better, get rid of clunky and unused items, freeing up space. This will also make it easier to clean. Cleanliness also helps. Dust! Vacuum! Get the stains out!

Do a lot of research first, determine what style you prefer and what would look good in your space. Then look at websites, magazines, books, etc. Only then should you start buying things. Some people like to theme a room around one item, one color, etc.
