"Type" could be interpreted differently by every individual. For me it could mean: big, medium size, small; aggressive, submissive; obedient, dissobedient; companion, independent; and so on. The dog that makes a good pet: whichever you like as long as he/she loves you so much that will let YOU train him/her.

There are many types of dogs like toy dogs, working dogs, hound dogs. Toy dogs are good watch dogs and good for pets. Working dogs could be for protection, helping the blind or even herding cattle. Hound dogs make good hunting dogs. I think a small breed of dog of your choice would be best.

I have owned many different types of dogs. St. Bernards make loving pets if they are trained and brought up with children. English Mastiffs are amazing dogs but they live very short lives. It is hard to lose one because they become so attached.

There are very many different types of dogs and it depends on how much time and space you have available for the dog. Many people like Labradors because of their playful nature, however, they are rather large dogs. Other people like Beagles, who are smaller, but can tend to howl.

Often known dogs can be dogs like a chihuahua which is very noisy and prone to liking one person in a family or home, and a German Sheppard which is very protective. A Labrador retriever is one of the best dogs to own due to its great personality.
