These can include your typical volcano, however something more complex may be systems that prevent soil erosion, or a water purifiying system. A water purification system can be achieved by putting layers of sands, rocks and charcoal followed by a filter paper so that dirty water is purified. Or you can create an electric motor/generator to light a bulb.

Some good science fair projects are: Where will a plant grow faster, the shade or the sunlight; Will a apple rot faster in a bag or on a napkin; and Will a race car go farther of a ramp on carpet or wood?. I have done these before.

Showing the differences of racing fuel and regular fuel. Another good one is showing the differences of natural compost and potting soil to plant with.

I would recommend a nonnewtonian fluid. It's simple and fun, just cornstarch and water. The only other item needed is a stereo and perhaps a cookie sheet.

You can show what happens if you put food coloring in the water of a vase. This is great for white flowers. Another fun project is to see whether plant fertilizer really helps the plants, and if so, what kind.
