A retelling is a story that has been passed on purely by word of mouth. As the story is "retold", slight changes are made. Most of these changes are due to the lack of a written source to confirm the details of the original story. While details may vary, the main storyline is usually accurate.

It is when someone hears a story, then from memory, recount that story to the best of their ability. Some of the text is changed but the theme stays.
