There are two types of meningitis. The first is bacterial meningitis. This is spread by someone coughing, sneezing or kissing. The second is viral meningitis. This can be called by many viruses or also being sneezed or coughed on from someone infected.

Bacterial meningitis is contagious and can be passed person to person by close personal contact (kissing, sharing water bottles or toothbrushes, etc. Bacterial meningitits can also be contracted from infected swimming water such as lake or stream.
