How common is canine meningitis?

My dog is being tested. I never heard of this.

I have not heard of this being a problem where I live (Northeast), and indeed have not heard of this being an issue. It may be an adjunct to Distemper or Lyme, both of which have preventative vaccines. I would consult my vet, and abide by their decision on preventatives.

Canine meningitis is not common in dogs. Caused by a bacteria, the most common form of meningitis in dogs is called steroid responsive. Steroid responsive meningitis can be treated in dogs with a aggressive treatment of steroid drugs. Left untreated, the meningitis will cause swelling the brain and become fatal.

i just had to put down my dog today, he was diagnosed with steroid responsive meningitis and he was on very heavy doses. As soon as it seemed he was taking one step forward, he would eventually take 2 steps backwards. its a very serious condition. Love you always Bommer
