Alkali metals are chemical elements forming group 1 and period 1 of the periodic table. They are grouped like these because they present similar chemical properties (highly reactive, low density, and low melting point, among others): Lithium(Li) Sodium(Na) Potassium(K) Rubidium(Rb) Caesium(Cs) Francium(Fr). They react violently with the opposing Halogen elements.
