There is an FDA approved vaccine to prevent cervical cancer in females. It has been approved for boys and men to protect against genital warts. This vaccine should be given prior to being sexually active. There are no known serious side effects.

Actually, Gardasil has been approved for boys as well as girls. As with any vaccine, the more people who get it the better. HPV can appear in both men and women and cause both cervical and penile cancers, so if more people are vaccinated against it, that would probably be better.

It is important to teach our girls the importance of abstinence. To get them vaccinated is only giving them a free-pass to have as much sex as they want. Millions have led healthy lives prior to the introduction of this vaccination. It has only been since we have taken less rolls in our kids' lives that we need this drug.

Just like any other vaccine or medication, you need to discuss it with your doctor. If you are under 18, I would think you would also talk it over with your parents. Your doctor will discuss with you the pros and cons and take into consideration your medical and social history.
