When bottle-feeding became popular, oatmeal or rice cereal was often added at a very youny age. While some children thrived others, though, did not tolerate this addition, because their sucking and swallowing actions were not fully developed. This led to inhaling small amounts into their lungs and pulmonary problems.
According to pediatricians it is not safe because the oatmeal or rice cereal is a choking hazard. A child should always be spoon fed when he/she comes of age to receive solid foods.
