Generally speaking, a company cannot withhold a pay check; labor laws require that employees be paid within specific time frame after the pay period ends. The timing may vary by state, but I believe it is within 8 days for weekly pay period and 12 days for bi-weekly.

Wages cannot be withheld for any reason. Contact the Labor Relations Board and file a complaint against the company. This will likely inspire them to hand over your money post haste.

It is not legal for companies to withold your paycheck, they have a maximum of 2 weeks from the termination of employment to furnish your pay. You may be thinking of paycheck deductions for items like uniforms, training, damage to property or union dues. These types of witholding are perfectly legal.

It's illegal for them to do this. They cannot hold your check from you for any reason. If you worked, they have to pay you.
